A list of Service-oriented and Development-oriented works at Ánandanagar

1963 – The first primary school at Ánandanagar was established in 1963.

1964– A Junior High School was established in 1964. On the 3rd February, 1965, the Education Department of West Bengal Government gave it recognition retrospectively from 1.1.1964.

Ánandanagar Abha Seva Sadan Charitable Dispensary was established in 1964.

In June 1964, a temporary branch post office was established at Baglata under Garjaypur Post Office. It started its work at the then press cum book binding office.

Press and book-binding started in 1964.

The Ánandanagar High School was established on 1st January 1964. On the 25th May, 1967, the Pashchimbanga Madhyashiksha Parishat extended recognition to it with effect from 1.1.1966.

1965—The Ánandanagar Universal store was established at Ánandanagar.

1966 – A degree college was established at Ánandanagar on 23rd of July, 1966. It was recognized by Bardhaman University on 12th August, 1966. It was the third college in the district of Puruliya.

A leprosy home was set up for the treatment of lepers. It was given the name of New Life Asylum (N.L.A.)

The Ánandanagar Shishu Sadan (children’s home) was established for orphans and indigent children.

The Ánandanagar Academy of Light (AMAL) was established for handicapped children.

The Adult Training Centre was established.

The Agricultural and Dairy Farm was established.

ERAWS central Store (E.C.G.) workshop began working, K.G. apparatus for Ánandanagar school was manufactured there.

Ánandamarga Institute of Technology, was established.

Industry and Farm Training Centre was established

A hostel where poor students could get cheap food on nominal payment was established.

Dam and Irrigation Division was established

1978 – Umá Nivása was established for conducting work relating to the women’s Division of Ánandanagar.

Attack from Evil Forces – Self—sacrifice of Monks and workers.

1967—On 5th March, 1967, hooligans belonging to the C.P.M. attacked and brutally murdered five monks —- namely,  Ácárya Abhedananda Avadhuta, Ácáya Saccidánanda Avadhuta, Avadhkumara, Prabodh kumara, and Bharata Kumara.

‘After a long-drawn trial 18 persons were punished with imprisonment for various periods. Those punished included Ashok Chakravarti, BDO of Gar Jaypur.

1968 – The place where the five monks were murdered was named Dadhiiei Hill. The Forest Department kept opposing the show of respect to the Dadhiici’s (martyrs) and prayer and meditation at the spot. As a protest, a Satyágraha movement started. Everyday five Ánandamargiis went there and courted arrest. This Satyágraha started in the month of June.

1967 – 68  — — 65 false cases were initiated against Ánandamargiis and Ashramites. The latter won all the cases.

1975 – The central Government declared a state of Emergency  on 3rd July 1975, Ánandamárga was banned. In the general elections held in 1977, the Congress Government was thrown out of power. The ban on Ánandamárga was lifted. But in the mean time, all schools, hostels, college, hospitals, children’s homes and other service-oriented institutions at Ánandanagar were destroyed.

1982 – Such atrocities did not happen at Ánandanagar alone. On the 30th April, 1982, on Bijon Setu, near Ballygunge Fándi, and at Bondel Gate in the city of Kolkata, hooligans of the C.P.M. brutally killed 17 male and female monks in broad daylight.

1989-90– From 22th December. 1989, onwards, men of C.P.M., the ruling party, continuously destroyed and looted service-oriented branch institutions at the extreme limits of Ánandanagar. They also made murderous attacks on ashramites with gun-shots and bombs.

1990— On the 2nd April, 1990, at village Catka, hooligans of the C.P.M. brutally hacked to death Ácárya Asiimánanda Abadhuta, an agricultural scientist and four other Ánandamárgiis.

On 4th June, 1990, at the instigation of the C.P.M., police shot to death Ácárya Karuòáketana Brahmacárii at Pundag railway station.

1994 – On 5th April, 1994, a C.P.M. gang brutally murdered Shrii Rádhu Soren of Dámrághutu, a dedicated and idealist Ánandamárgii:

1995 – On 17th December night, 11 Ánandamárgiis including monks were arrested in connection with arms-droping at Puruliya. They were all acquitted by the Court. In his full judgement, the judge declared that Ánandamarga was not involved in the matter.

1996 – At 9 PM of 2nd September, 1996, miscreants of the C.P.M. murdered Ácárya Jyotiriananda Abadhuta at Metalya Ashram.

1997 — At 11 P.M. of 29th September, 1997, at Abhedánanda Dihi Áshram, mouza Márámu, hooligans belonging to the C.P.M. murdered Ácárya Anirbáòa Brahmacárii.

2001 – At 10 P.M. of 13th March, 2001, at P.S.D. House, Uttar Ánandanagar, miscreants belonging to the C.P.M. brutally murdered Ácárya Bhudevánanda Abadhuta.
